Description
The Early Childhood Development qualification is comprised of 5 Modules. These are presented by way of lecturers, group discussions and case studies.
The minimum duration of the programme is 12 Months. Note that each module carries credits towards a qualification and therefore each module can be treated as a short course.

Objective
This qualification will enable recipients of this to facilitate the all-round development of young children in a manner that is sensitive to culture and individual needs (including special needs)
The course enables enable delegates to provide quality early childhood develop-ment services for children in a variety of contexts, including community-based ser-vices, ECD centres, at home and institutions.
Programme
This modules allows the delegate to: Prepare Early Childhood Development programmes with support; Prepare resources and set up the environment to support the development of babies, toddlers and young children; Design activities to support the development of babies, toddlers and young children; Develop learning programmes to enhance participation of learners with special needs.
Provide care for babies, toddlers and young children; Support children and adults living with HIV and AIDS; Describe how to manage reactions arising from a traumatic event.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the development of babies, toddlers and young children; Facilitate the holistic development of babies, toddlers and young children; Observe and report on child development.
Work with Families and Communities to Support Early Childhood Development; Conduct a Structured Meeting.
Apply knowledge of statistics and probability to critically interrogate and effectively communicate findings on life related problems; Represent analyze and calculate shape and motion in 2-and 3-dimensional space in different contexts; Use mathematics to investigate and monitor the financial aspects of personal, business, national and international issues.
Qualifying Criteria
The minimum entry requirements for admission to ECD are:
- 1. Communication and Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3 or equivalent
- 2. Second Language at NQF Level 2 or equivalent
- 3. No matric certificate or equivalent needed to register
